World Health Organization: State of Long-Term Care in Greece

The TIMA Charitable Foundation was part of the Stakeholder Group that was consulted by the World Health Organization aimed at developing a report on the State of Long-Term Care in Greece. This report was produced by the WHO Regional Office for Europe through its Athens Office on Quality of Care and Patient Safety. The final publication was developed in collaboration with the Government and Ministry of Health of the Hellenic Republic, under the framework of the HEALTH-IQ project indicating a certain level of commitment by the State to improve the sector.  A team of international and national Long Term Care experts were also consulted for the report which provides an overview of long-term care policies, services and interventions in Greece, drawing on a system-level technical assessment carried out between March 2024 and June 2024.

The assessment revealed four areas of policy that are vital for accelerating Long-Term Care in Greece: 1) adopting a unified legal framework with a view to harmonizing processes and pathways across sectors; 2) increasing the fiscal environment and public expenditure; 3) investing in protecting, supporting and empowering the health and care workforce, including formal and informal carers; and 4) expanding and strengthening data infrastructure that is harmonized and interoperable across systems
