Myrtillo Café is a wide-ranging training project for people with learning disabilities to help them acquire independent living skills, self-esteem, sociability, new friendships and independence. It also aims to cultivate awareness of their right to employment. At least 40% of the Café’s paid staff and all of the trainees are people with learning disabilities. In addition to being a training environment, Myrtillo Café operates as a traditional café and as a recreational space. The source of inspiration for the opening of the Myrtillo Café was the Edinburgh NGO “The Engine Shed”. The grant regards renovation works necessary for the opening of Myrtillo Café.
