From 2017 to 2020, People Behind completed 5 pilot programs with 210 beneficiaries, offering 320 hours of recreational activities and 68 hours of training in technology. This was done with the Municipality of Athens and InnovAthens. Since 2018 People Behind also offered, through the ActionAid Epikentro Community Center, educational programs and theatre groups for individuals aged 65+. The University for Seniors” program began as a pilot in Gazi and was followed up by the launch of a program which TIMA supported from 2020 to 2021.
University for Seniors
The grant regards the support of a year-long University for Seniors program consisting of 8 different thematic courses for approximately 200 individuals over the age of 65, covering 140 workshops. The project aims to activate and improve the social, mental and physical well-being of the participating seniors. The University for Seniors will include a series of seminars including: Creative Writing, History of Art, Group Therapy, Counseling, E-banking, Digital Skills, Theatre and Physical Education for the elderly. Many of the courses are carried out in partnership with experts in their fields. The workshops relate to People Behind’s three targets of healthy and active ageing, including: life-long learning, digital integration & training, and improving physical well-being.
