“Together at Home” Program

The grant regards the implementation of a psychological support program entitled “Together at Home”, aimed at cancer patients and their carers. The program began in 2018 with the goal of improving the quality of life of patients who are unable to move from their homes. The program is implemented by a team of psychologists and social workers and is aimed at oncology patients who meet specific requirements. Interventions by health professionals are prioritized according to the individual’s needs, with particular emphasis on vulnerable groups of the population, especially elderly and lonely patients. The purpose of psychological support is to manage the emotional state of a patient following diagnosis and empowering them to adapt to the new circumstances in their life, whilst social support helps inform people of their rights and the benefits they are entitled to. The program is expected to support close to 250 elderly cancer patients in Athens and another 250 caregivers for a total of 500 people in the year.
