Prolepsis’ mission is to respond to challenges of public health by conducting scientific research and applying results to both educational and humanitarian initiatives. Prolepsis has acted as the coordinator or partner to over 50 programs at national, European and international levels.
Friendship for All Ages Program
The grant regards the “Friendship for All Ages” program which targets lonely and socially secluded individuals over the age of 65. For this project, Prolepsis collaborated with the French NGO, “Petits Frères des Pauvres” (Little Brothers of the Poor) whose sole mission has been to carry out such programs nationally since 1946 and internationally with partners since 1979. The beneficiaries are paired with volunteers whom Prolepsis trains and the volunteers meet with a beneficiary on a weekly basis and sometimes arrange for social events outside of the beneficiaries’ homes including visits to the beach, walks, free theaters, and so on. Volunteers receive psychological support in dealing with various issues including, for example, the loss of the beneficiaries they’ve been partnered with. Prolepsis also operates a telephone line that provides psychological support to lonely elderly, even those who are not participating in the program.
