The Association’s main goals are: the provision of assistance to patients with dementia using non-pharmaceutical interventions, counselling for caregivers of individuals with dementia (over 1000 caregivers have been supported and trained), and training of health professionals (over 150 persons have been trained). Additionally, the Association also raises awareness of the general population regarding the disease, participates in research programs, and publishes relevant articles in various journals. Moreover, the Association has conducted memory testing for seniors, trained certain population groups such as taxi drivers and policemen (over 100 people) on how to deal with individuals that have dementia, and has provided cognitive training to seniors in the Open Protection Centers for the Elderly (OPCEs) of Larisa Prefecture as well as to elderly residents living in care homes in Larisa, Trikala, and Karditsa.
Program for Individuals with Dementia, Individuals with Mild Cognitive Deficiencies, and their Caregivers
The request regards the implementation of a multi-faceted program that will serve several beneficiary groups. These beneficiary groups include:
- individuals with dementia and their caregivers
- persons with mild cognitive deficiencies
- elderly from the Municipality of Larisa and other Municipalities in the region
- elderly residents of the Larisa Municipal Care Home
Various services will be provided to beneficiary groups with dementia and mild cognitive deficiencies, such as care at home services by health professionals, including nursing, physical therapy, psychological support and mental strengthening. They will also be trained in using digital tools using a tablet as a tool for mental strengthening sessions. Lastly, the elderly from the Municipalities will undergo memory testing and those who need it will receive further support. Information on healthy ageing and dementia prevention will also be provided to them. The program will last 12 months and its team will be composed of a nurse, 2 psychologists, a physical therapist, pathologist doctor, a computer technician, and a program administrator.
