The organization has been operating since 2021 with a strong network of volunteers in the region with efforts to reverse local unemployment, social disintegration, and environmental neglect. Ambelli has also carried out educational workshops and seminars, supporting intergenerational projects related to the environment and bolstering the agricultural sector while also providing food aid to disadvantaged communities. In 2022, its efforts were noted at the prestigious World Green Energy Symposium.

In the aftermath of Storm Daniel that took place in the fall of 2023, Ambelli has been delivering disaster relief and has connected with impacted communities to provide support and aid. Ambelli has delivered water, food, economic aid, and infrastructure support to the most vulnerable communities in the region outside of Trikala. The organization launched soup kitchens in Pyli village near Trikala as well as Trikala town.

The grant regards two sub-projects:

  • The provision of consumables and linens for the Home for the Elderly “Saint Nicholas” near Trikala that had supplies damaged during the floods.

The village of Megala Kalyvia near Trikala hosts the only residential home for seniors in the broader Trikala region. The floods impacted the facility for several days requiring its residents to temporarily take shelter in the nearby school.

  • A soup kitchen initiative which operates out of the municipalities of Pyli and Trikala by providing daily meals to senior individuals and their families impacted by Storm Daniel that can no longer cook in their own homes. Additionally, olive oil will be provided as part of the program.

The beneficiaries of this grant are the 25 residents of the Care Home, approximately 200 seniors who will receive meals from the soup kitchens, and over 100 households (with at least one elderly member) in Trikala and Karditsa that will receive the olive oil.
