For these purposes, Lesvos Solidarity created structures and programs for the provision of housing, psychosocial and medical care and free access to informal education and vocational training. The activities of the organization include the offer of vocational training, job-search workshops, food and essential goods distributions, and recycling workshops to raise awareness regarding the protection of the environment. At the same time, Lesvos Solidarity developed partnerships and networks with civil society groups to defend human rights.
Medical Program
The grant regards the creation of a program for the provision of medical care to elderly people who are excluded from direct and free access to the public health system. This exclusion is due to the geographical limitation (the beneficiaries live in remote areas of Lesvos) which makes it difficult for the beneficiaries to move either because of their advanced age or because of disability/serious illness. The program will provide medical care, through routine medical checks and further medical assistance through clinics and/or the hospital; psychological support in order to assist patients’ mental health; social support, to the vulnerable elderly for easier access to social services, social security and other benefits; lastly, the program will also offer food and basic necessities.
