The Association’s main goals are: the provision of information regarding Alzheimer’s Disease through awareness-raising speeches, advisory, and distribution of printed material as well as the provision of assistance to patients with dementia, especially those who are dealing with financial issues. The Association has no paid staff and it is operated by volunteers.
Care at Home Program
The grant regards the continuation of a 12-month care at home program for patients with advanced-stage dementia, that commenced in 2019 through a TIMA grant. The program will serve 40 families of dementia patients with home visits. The intervention for each family will last a year and will provide nursing and medical care for persons suffering with dementia as well as psychological support and training for their caregiver. A nurse, doctor (neurologist), and at-home aide will be employed through the program. The doctor will conduct a neurological examination of the patient and will follow the course of the patient’s health throughout the program, the nurse will provide individualized care and relief to each patient and will also train caregivers on how to provide similar care to the patients; lastly, the at-home aide will clean the family home in order to relieve caregivers of this task as well as provide company to the patient.
