The municipality has five Open Centers for the Protection of the Elderly (OPCEs). The aims of the OPCEs are to support the elderly in remaining autonomous, equal, and active members of the community. The OPCEs provide staff such as doctors of various specialities in order to help support their members with specific problems and needs including psychological support. The OPCEs also arrange social events and leisure activities in order to further encourage social interaction and engagement. The OPCEs have around 15,000 members of which around 2,000 are active.
Equipment
The grant regards the purchase of a van and 5 defibrillators, one for each of the 5 OPCEs. The van will be used to transfer the elderly to and from the OPCEs. It will also be available to transport those with financial and mobility issues to and from hospitals and medical units for check-ups.
