Creation of a National Dementia Helpline

Seveneleven was founded in 2013 with the aim to design, organize, and implement entertainment programs for the Third Age and people living with dementia.

In an effort to improve the quality of life of older people, Seveneleven, through a TIMA grant, implemented its first recreational program in 2014 involving visits to 12 care homes. With the experience gained, in 2015, Seveneleven continued by offering weekly recreational visits to one care home. In 2017, Seveneleven began implementing Thallo, which is a methodology to support people with dementia in order to keep them active and engaged with the world around them in a recreational manner. The organization developed over 2,500 activities of how to positively support the elderly with dementia through art and games. The method is now being examined by the Johns Hopkins University to certify the positive effects that it has on the elderly. Seveneleven also participates in the Hellenic Initiative Against Alzheimer’s Disease along with leading academics in neurodegenerative diseases.

The grant regards the creation of a National Helpline for Dementia patients and their caregivers in order to help them find the support that they need. Each call is estimated to last 30-40 minutes long and will offer information and advice to the callers. Amongst the services that will be offered are: information on dementia, proposals for daily activities with the patient, psychological support of people with dementia and their caregivers, guidance to other services in relation to where beneficiaries live, introductions to doctors for diagnosis and support, the creation of support groups for caregivers, and legal and financial advice. There are an estimated 220,000 people with Dementia in Greece during the present time; as a consequence, approximately 440,000 caregivers throughout the country support them.
