One of Frodizo’s main goals is to offer services that allow the elderly and people with disabilities to remain at home, thus avoiding institutionalization. Frodizo’s main activities are: a) Care at home programs for people with dementia and their families and training of their caregivers; b) Memory Support Office, a structure that was implemented in 2018 where memory & psycho-neurological evaluation is conducted for people over 55 years of age and consulting services are carried out for caregivers of individuals suffering from dementia; c) Day Center for persons with dementia residing in Patra; d) Awareness-raising for the public on matters pertaining to dementia and healthy and active ageing.
Care at Home Program
The grant regards the implementation of a care at home program for individuals with dementia. The program will last 12 months and will offer home visits to 40 families of dementia patients. The intervention for each family will last 6 months, with 20 families being supported during each cycle. The program includes a psychologist, a nurse, a social worker, a physical therapist, and an at-home aide who will offer various services to people with dementia and their caregivers. About 30 caregivers will be trained during each cycle, given that some families have more than one caregiver for a person with dementia. The services performed include mental and physical strengthening, psychological support, the provision of nursing, counselling regarding welfare/insurance matters, and home care such as house cleaning and company to the patient. As part of this program, dementia training seminars for caregivers will be offered throughout the year. In addition, Frodizo will be operating a telephone support line that will be open to the greater public for information for caring for an elderly person during the COVID-19 pandemic.
