Challedu places special emphasis on groups such as seniors with dementia and school students. It uses games as a means of socialization, empowerment, and recreation for seniors, and at the same time as a means of education, skills development, and interaction for middle and high school students. Challedu has created several educational and inclusive games that have been presented at the Athens Science Festival, the Athens 2018 Book Capital, Technopolis and other events. Challedu works in collaboration with schools, NGOs, foundations, universities, educational institutions, civil organizations and cultural centers.
Intergenerational Recreational Program
The grant regards the creation of an intergenerational recreational program; its goal is the interaction between the elderly at 4 Attica care homes with middle and high school students. The recreational program will consist of a mystery game whereby the elderly will recount stories and reveal to students the narratives that have been created from their memories. The students will be called upon to solve puzzles, find objects, and surmount the obstacles in the story, in order to solve the mysteries. Workshops will take place at the care homes, in order to collect memories of the elderly. The process will be led by a psychologist and aided by care home staff. After the memories are gathered, the games will be designed, the personnel will be trained in how to carry them out and the elderly will assume particular roles and responsibilities. At the program’s culmination, a video and a program manual will be developed, with instructions for its implementation in other care homes in the future. The beneficiaries are the approximately 136 elderly residents of the 4 care homes, the 800 students that will participate in the program, the 10 employees of the care homes, as well as the 40 teachers of the students.
