“Caring for the Elderly” Program
The grant regards the continuation of “Caring for the Elderly”, a program providing monthly food supplies and hygiene products to 74 families in need in Drama. The recipient families are comprised of elders exclusively or with an elderly family member living under the same roof. The provision of food supplies and hygiene products is realized through the use of vouchers allowing the families to purchase the items that they need most. Two social workers have received specialized training and appointed to run the program more efficiently. The families also receive nutritional advice regarding a healthier and more balanced diet for their elderly members. Moreover, informational events and presentations by experts are held pertaining to health-related issues and the beneficiaries also participate in various recreational and educational activities and excursions. Lastly, group meals will be organized on a periodic basis for elderly beneficiaries living alone with the aim of increasing social interaction. The grant is implemented in direct collaboration with the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation.
