It has supported hundreds of patients to date through the provision of a plethora of services. Additional/second opinion from a network of doctors in Greece, Europe and the US is offered as well as access to medication and medical examinations. Volunteer psychologists and a social worker offer individual and group therapy sessions. Recently diagnosed patients are informed about the disease, the treatment and their rights. Touch of Life also accompanies patients to chemotherapy treatments and doctors’ visits.

Program Support

The grant regards the creation of a program titled “Ageing and Cancer” that will offer to elderly cancer patients the three basic Touch of Life services (medical, psychological and social support) tailored to the specific needs of third age. It will also offer services such as the participation in recreational and entertainment activities. The need to offer recreational and entertainment activities came as a result of working with elderly patients who experience higher degrees of solitude, seclusion and depression compared to patients of other age groups. Another additional aspect of the program is the organization of informational events to 40 Open Protection Centers for the Elderly (35 in Athens and 5 in Thessaloniki) aimed at cancer prevention as well as the provision of useful information on how to live with cancer. Through these activities, it is estimated that more than 800 elderly beneficiaries will be reached.
