In 2014, Greece had approximately 15,000 paraplegics and quadriplegics out of which 5,000 are members of one of the Association’s 4 subsidiaries (Athens, Thessaloniki, Lamia and Argos). The Athens subsidiary offers services to about 2,500 members. The Association offers numerous services and is involved with a variety of activities such as support and home visits, the monitoring of the implementation of laws of relevant benefits, the operation of a specialized beach, a wheelchair basketball team, workshops, the organization of exhibitions, excursions, and the circulation of a bimonthly magazine.
Vehicle
The grant regards the purchase of a specialized vehicle with capacity to transport up to 5 wheelchairs. With this vehicle the transport of persons with mobile disabilities to hospitals and other state agencies is made possible. Approximately 250 people with mobile disabilities, 60% of which are over the age of 65, will be transported per year to their various destinations.
