PRAKSIS has a presence in Athens, Thessaloniki, Patra and Lesvos. It offers a variety of programs, amongst these are the Athens and Thessaloniki polyclinics providing: medical treatment, medication, psychological support, legal advice, employment counseling and social support.
In March 2012, PRAKSIS implemented, with the funding of the “Stavros Niarchos” Foundation, the pilot program “Syn sto Plyn” (meaning “a Plus to Minus”). The “Syn sto Plyn” Program can be divided in 2 sections: the operation of Day Centers for the homeless and the Social Housing Program. The 3 Day Centers for the homeless will operate in Attica and Piraeus. Their aim will be to offer relief by providing access to services like the use of showers and laundry facilities, medical treatment as well as counseling for the reintegration into the workforce. The Social Housing Program aims to prevent homelessness by supporting families who are at the verge of losing their homes. The goal is for each family to gain its financial independence and to exit the program while allowing the inclusion of more families. Under this program, each family will receive support tailored to its specific needs though the streamlining of the family budget. The focus of this support will be on financial assistance and autonomy attainment. More specifically, a team of specialists will work with each family in order to determine a targeted strategy that will allow them to maintain their home and remain self-sufficient in the long run. The specific team consists of social workers, psychologists, legal advisors, and specialists in the fields of employment placement and financial management.

The grant regards the addition of families to the Social Housing subprogram of “Syn sto Plyn”. The grant will fund the inclusion of 9 families with a prerequisite of an elderly family member living under the same roof, for one year. As these families attain independence and exit the program, more families will be added.
