On the island of Chios, one of the most significant social welfare programs offered by the Metropolis is the “Meals of Love” Program. “Meals of Love” is a hot meal program whereby volunteers cook approximately 540 meals daily, 5 days a week. All meals are cooked in Chios town and then distributed to local parishes through the help of the army and fire department. The program currently distributes 700 daily meals, 40% of which are directed to elderly residents.
