The GINGER research program is based on the worldwide Finnish Intervention Study to Prevent Cognitive Decline and Disability (FINGER), which was the first study to show that lifestyle interventions are beneficial for prevention of cognitive decline. GINGER is overseen by the Hellenic Initiative Against Alzheimer’s Disease (HIAAD), a network of Greek researchers, clinicians and health professionals in neurodevelopmental disorders. HIAAD has been established and operates under the auspices of the President of the Hellenic Republic.

GINGER program

The grant regards the implementation of the GINGER pilot program. The pilot includes support to 50 beneficiaries across 5 Day Centers throughout Greece, with individual interventions on sleep, anxiety, depression, vision and hearing issues, diet, exercise and more. It aims to reduce the risk of dementia in people who have subjective cognitive decline. GINGER targets “healthy” individuals who note a deterioration in their cognitive function even though their tests do not reveal any disorders. The pilot phase of the intervention will aim to evaluate the applicability and functionality of the GINGER interventions in order to facilitate its widespread implementation and the creation of Brain Clinics in Greece.
