The TIMA Charitable Foundation made several emergency grants to six non-profit organizations in response to the widespread fires & floods that took place in Greece in 2023. Through this emergency response umbrella grant program, almost 4,000 beneficiaries, a large proportion of whom are elderly, will be reached in Thessaly and Thrace.
The organizations that received grants include the following:
- Desmos for the provision of sugar and protein feed to beekeepers affected by the recent 2023 fires in the Soufli region of Evros. About 70 beekeepers will receive feed for more than 4,000 bee hives.
- Doctors of the World for a grant to support households in the flood-hit villages of South Pilion in Thessaly. Through a mobile unit, the program will provide medical and psychosocial support as well as materials and equipment for those in need. An estimated 500 beneficiaries will be assisted.
- Emfasis for a program to support individuals living in flood-hit and isolated areas of Karditsa, in the Thessaly region. A mobile unit will provide psychosocial, legal, and material support to those in need and Emfasis will also create a direct telephone line specifically for the program with the aim of offering support and guidance to elderly in the region. The program will support an estimated 100 elderly.
- Givmed for a program for medicine and hygiene product donation for vulnerable persons stricken by the recent floods in Thessaly. The program will provide pharmaceuticals and hygiene products to a network of approximately 20 organizations that will coordinate donations in the affected areas. The estimated beneficiaries are approximately 2,500 persons.
- The Greek Association of Alzheimer’s Disease and Relative Disorders of Larisa Prefecture for the provision of food and household materials to seniors that have been stricken by the floods in Larisa and Karditsa Prefectures. The estimated beneficiaries are about 200 persons.
- Ambelli for the provision of consumables and linens for: a) the Home for the Elderly “Saint Nicholas” near Trikala and b) a soup kitchen initiative which operates out of the municipalities of Pyli and Trikala by providing daily meals to senior individuals and their families impacted by poverty and the recent floods. Additionally, olive oil will be provided to elderly in Trikala and Karditsa Prefectures. The estimated beneficiaries of this grant are the approximately 400 seniors in Trikala and Karditsa Prefectures.
