Program for Seniors in Northern Evia Affected by the 2021 Fires
The grant regards the creation of a program aimed at seniors living in villages throughout Northern Evia that have been affected by the fires of August 2021. The program will seek to support the elderly mainly in terms of their psychological health, but also in terms of medical prevention. The program will cover a wide range of needs and activities through a team composed of several health professionals such as psychologists, nurses, psychiatrists, and physical therapists. The professionals will be available in two Reception Centers that will operate in the two central villages of Northern Evia in coordination with the local Municipalities. Mobile Units will operate over four trimesters in 8 different villages in Northern Evia via at-home visits. These at-home visits will be directed for those seniors that do not have the capacity to travel easily to the Reception Centers from other villages.
The services that will be provided are psychosocial support and general health prevention and physical rehabilitation at home. Individual and group psychotherapy and counseling sessions will take place for seniors experiencing psychological trauma related to the fires, and other issues of psychological health. Sessions for mental strengthening will take place as well. Items of personal hygiene will also be distributed for free to low-income senior beneficiaries at the Centers. The at-home units will also seek to train the elderly person and/or their caregiver in health and prevention techniques that are critical to the Third Age. After the culmination of each trimester and even of the program, those beneficiaries that need further support will be able to utilize the telephone advisory service.
