Medical and Psychological Support of Isolated and Vulnerable Individuals 60+
The grant regards the co-funding with The Hellenic Initiative—Canada of a 6-month care at home program to cover a variety of needs for isolated and vulnerable elderly individuals in the periphery of Attica. The grant is an extension of the previous program that was funded by TIMA. The program provides medical and psychosocial support services by telephone for elderly over 60 who are isolated and have no family support. Doctors from the organization provide medical advice whilst psychologists and social workers support the elderly in dealing with their isolation and their own particular circumstances. Medicine is also delivered to elderly who are financially vulnerable. Additionally, the Online Companionship program connects the elderly for virtual meetings. Virtual groups are led by a member of staff from the Doctors of the World. The tablets provided and the technology are easy to use and suitable for the isolated elderly individuals.
